String quartet
Our string quartets are the best in London, our musicians working with top orchestras including the BBC Symphony, London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic, performing with Bocelli, Adele and Ed Sheeran, and touring all over the world. We take pride in what we do and how we play, and as top graduates from the Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music conservatoires, we’re experienced and exceptional performers and love making music, whether it’s the Classics or a bit of Bon Jovi.
Our founders have been performing for weddings and special events for over 10 years, and will help you curate the perfect playlist for your day. We have a wide selection of music for you to choose from, and if you have a special request that you can’t find on our list please let us know and as long as the music is available we can arrange it and perform it for free!
A string quartet is probably the most popular ensemble booked here at String Musicians London, especially since the famous series Bridgerton was released, showcasing the string quartet’s elegance and opulence, rich harmonies, and musical versatility. The string quartet is a perfect choice for larger spaces and events.
Of course, that means it’s also the most expensive ensemble for hire, so if you’d like to scale down a little, but not compromise on quality in any way, you may wish to check out our string trio and our violin and cello duo. All ensembles sound fantastic, provide melodic and harmonic lines and can perform all the music on our repertoire list!
Hire a String Quartet for your Corporate Event or Party
As well as weddings, we are experienced at performing for high-end corporate events, and have even performed for the Royal Family at St James Palace and the King in Westminster! We also perform for private parties, ranging from baby showers, Christmas and birthday parties in private homes and wedding anniversary dinners in restaurants. We’re here to help make your day as classy and memorable as possible, and add a touch of soul to your event!
Our repertoire is vast so whether you’d like to hear Classical only, or stick to 60’s music, or pop – we’ve got you covered!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you perform internationally for my destination wedding?
If you’re having a luxurious international event or wedding and would like us to play for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch – we travel often for work and can help you make all the arrangements! Some of our recent performances as a quartet have been in France, Italy and Spain. We will be able to advise you on the best travel logistics for traveling with instruments – bear in mind that the cello will need its own seat on the plane! We also will give you a quote that includes per diems, so that our food and travel costs are covered. It’s a good idea to book early so that you keep costs down, but we can also travel at the last minute, dependent on availability!
We’ve been told that it’s usually better to book with us, reliable and experienced musicians, rather than hiring local musicians – it is best to not compromise when it comes to communication, professionalism, talent and expertise when it comes to celebrating one of the most important days of your life.
What do you wear?
We always ensure we are well-presented and dressed elegantly and professionally, and will take care of the musical arrangements for you, leaving you stress-free and enjoying the beautiful music on your special day. If you have a specific colour scheme, let us know and we’ll see what we have in our wardrobes – we have every colour ballgown! The men usually wear all black dress trousers and shirt, and a tuxedo if requested.
What music do I need to choose for my wedding?
For the wedding ceremony itself, you should choose a wedding party/bridal entrance song (ideally a song or piece of music that has a special meaning for you), one or two songs for the signing of the registry, and an upbeat song for your ceremony exit.
If you need any advice on what has worked well for others, we’re happy to offer suggestions! Some examples of popular bridal entrance music, which is also great for the signing of the registry – Pachelbel ‘Canon’, Elvis ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’, Lana Del Rey ‘Young and Beautiful’, Ed Sheeran ‘Perfect’ and Cristina Perry ‘A Thousand Years’. The theme from Gladiator is also in demand at the moment! Again, if you have a specific choice that you can’t find on our list please let us know and we will do our best to source the music for free!
We also recommend hiring the string quartet or string ensemble to play some romantic music to set the mood as the guests are entering the ceremony room and sitting down.
If you’ve booked us for your cocktail reception, you may wish to choose all the music you’d like to hear, or give us a general idea and we’ll choose our most popular selections for you. Yes, Bridgerton arrangements are a big hit with clients and that’s our speciality!
Can you play outdoors?
We can indeed! We just ask that a shelter is provided for us to play under, such as a large umbrella per musician, or a secure gazebo, to prevent sunlight, rain and bird droppings damaging our instruments.
Is hiring a String Quartet the best choice?
A string quartet is like a miniature string orchestra, comprised of two violins, a viola and a cello. We’ve also performed with a double bass on request, completing the orchestra! So, with a quartet you have the full range of harmonies and resonance.
The string quartet has always been the go-to choice for years for those wishing to hire live, classically-trained musicians for their event. We’re so glad for Bridgerton, as this has inspired a comeback in recent years, with people realising that the string quartet is so versatile and can perform their favourite pop-covers! You really can’t go wrong with a string quartet – it can play anything 🙂 A string trio and violin and cello duo are also wonderful choices too – if you’d like to keep the costs down a bit, why not consider these options?
How much do you charge?
String Musicians London offers competitive rates and upon inquiring, we will respond with a quote that clearly states the different options and costs for each ensemble and length of time, as well as the travel fee per musician. There are no extra costs and we do not currently charge VAT. Please contact us directly for our price list.
How long should I hire the String Quartet for my wedding?
If your ceremony is a civil ceremony, an hour should be sufficient. We perform as guests arrive, during the ceremony itself (entrance, signing and exit), and as guests leave the room. For Church ceremonies, particularly Catholic Masses, we recommend that you book the musicians for two hours.
Post-wedding, you may wish to have live music during your cocktail reception – this is usually one or two hours. Some clients only book us for the cocktails and canapes, some book us only for the ceremony, and some book us for both the ceremony and drinks reception. We’ve even performed for the wedding breakfast as well, before the DJ arrives – it’s really up to you and your wishes, we’ll be able to offer suggestions and advice about what type of music is suitable for which part of the day.
How can I hire you?
Once we’ve confirmed all your booking details including location, time and ensemble, we will send you our contract and an invoice for the 25% deposit. Once we have received the payment via bank transfer or card payment (an extra fee applies), then all is confirmed and booked in! If your event is a bit more last minute, no worries – we just require the full fee upfront for events that are happening less than 4 weeks away.
